Ingredients
→ Cheese Bites Ingredients
01 10 oz mozzarella string cheese, cut into bite-sized pieces
02 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
03 1 cup all-purpose flour
04 2 eggs, whisked
05 1/4 cup milk
06 Cayenne pepper, optional
Instructions
Step 01
Cut mozzarella string cheese sticks into bite-sized pieces.
Step 02
In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs to break them up. Add the milk and whisk again to combine.
Step 03
Prepare three bowls: one for flour, one for the egg and milk mixture, and one for bread crumbs. Arrange them in a line (flour, egg wash, bread crumbs).
Step 04
Dip each piece of cheese into the flour, then into the egg wash, and finally roll it in the bread crumbs. Place coated cheese pieces on a plate.
Step 05
Heat approximately 2 inches of vegetable oil in a medium skillet to 350°F (180°C). Test the oil by placing a wooden spoon handle into it; if bubbles form and roll around the handle, the oil is ready.
Step 06
Set up a plate lined with paper towels.
Step 07
Add 5-7 cheese bites to the hot oil at a time, ensuring they remain separated to prevent sticking. Fry for about 30 seconds, or until they are golden brown.
Step 08
Remove fried cheese bites using a slotted spoon, and transfer them to the paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Step 09
Continue frying batches of cheese bites until all pieces are cooked.
Step 10
Serve the fried cheese bites immediately, either with pasta sauce or on their own.
Notes
- Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature to achieve crispy bites without overcooking them.
- For a spicier flavor, sprinkle cayenne pepper into the bread crumbs before coating the cheese.
